Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English literature. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell first covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget and the arms control. Mitchell travelled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss matters such as the Iran Contra controversy.
